Cardinal slams govt. on missing Easter attacks evidence

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith slammed the Sri Lankan Government once again for delaying justice over the 2019 Easter Sunday Terror Attacks.

"We are being informed of the existence of a group that provided all the support required by the terror group to carry out the brutal attack," he told worshipers at an event at St. Sebastian's Church,Katuwapitiya to place the statues of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus, and to invoke blessings. 

His Eminence also raised concerns over certain missing areas in the Presidential Commission reports.

Former President Maithripala Sirisena appointed the Commission of Inquiry on September 22, 2019 to investigate and report on the series of terrorist attacks on Easter Sunday and to recommend necessary action based on the findings.

08 suicide terrorists carried out deadly attacks on April 21, 2019 targeting hotels and Catholic churches. They exploded bombs at St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade, St. Sebastian Church in Katuwapitiya, Zion Church in Batticaloa and hotels Shangri-La , the Kingsbury and Cinnamon Grand Colombo. Two terrorists killed themselves by detonating bombs in Dematagoda and Dehiwala.

The series of attacks cost 270 lives and injured around 500.

The Archbishop of Colombo, His Eminence Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith said that information is coming to light that a person or group by the name of Abu Hindh is behind the Easter Sunday Terror Attacks. 

"When that evidence was disclosed, one of the five judges had questioned about that name. The witness had said that he cannot reveal it since the media was present, and he had noted down the name in a piece of paper," he said.
