COLOMBO (News 1st) - Amid the ongoing dry weather conditions, the Irrigation Department has raised concerns about the depleting water levels in the country's main reservoirs.

They say that currently, the water level of 73 major reservoirs has plummeted down to a critical 28 percent capacity.

The Director of the Water Management Unit of the department, Engineer Sudarshani Vidanapathirana, emphasized the severity of the situation saying that the cumulative water volume across these 73 reservoirs has dwindled to a mere 820,000 acre feet.
