Colombo (News 1st) - Lucy Letby, 33, the British nurse convicted of killing seven babies and attempting to murder six more, was on Monday (21st) sentenced to life in prison by a court in Manchester, UK media reported.

The horrifying case has riveted attention in the UK and around the world in recent months and she was found guilty by the Manchester Crown Court last Friday. The 'whole life' order means she will never be eligible for parole.

Letby attacked babies in her care by administering air into their blood and stomachs, overfeeding them with milk, physically assaulting them, and poisoning them with insulin.

The case saw the UK's National Health Service draw much criticism as some doctors had warned that the first few deaths were suspicious, but hospital authorities did not bother to thoroughly investigate, and Letby was able t murder several more. Letby worked in the neonatal ward at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016.
