Youth representation in local government bodies to be increased

Colombo (News 1st) - Member of Parliament Premanath C. Dolawattha said, that the draft to confirm 25% youth representation in the local government bodies will be submitted to the Parliament.

He said this during a press conference held at the Presidential Media Unit yesterday.

Earlier, the Youth Discontent Commission had set a benchmark of 25% youth representation for local government nominations, but the parliamentarian stated that this opportunity was lost in the past and said that he expects the support of all parties in this effort to uphold that benchmark.

He also said that President Ranil Wickramasinghe has given priority to the participation of the youth in the decision-making process in this country.
