Over 150,000 affected by dry spell in Sri Lanka

COLOMBO (News 1st); 166,500 Sri Lankans belonging to 50,000 families are facing a serious crisis in accessing clean drinking water due to the dry weather conditions, said the Disaster Managment Center.

Major General (Retd) Sudantha Ranasinghe, the Director General of the DMC said these people belong to 13 districts in the country, adding that they were facing issues in accessing clean drinking water from the 1st of August.

A majority of the affected people are living in all districts in the North and Eastern Provinces, and the Hambantota, Badulla, Nuwara Eliya, and Monergala Districts.

The Director General of the DMC said that water is being supplied to the affected areas using bowser trucks.
