Over 11,000 complaints against police for being biased

COLOMBO (News 1st); The National Police Commission said that it received over 11,000 complaints against the Sri Lanka Police for being biased.

The NPC said so far in 2023, it received a total of 11,450 such complaints against Sri Lanka Police.

9,774 of these complaints were filed via the 1960 Emergency Hotline set up for the public to file complaints.

The other complaints were received by the Public Complaints Investigations Division of the NPC.

The National Police Commission said that over 1,800 complaints were resolved.

According to the National Police Commission, a majority of these complaints relate to the failure to examine public complaints, excessive use of force, and assaults committed by police officers.

The National Police Commission said the public can file complaints against unlawful acts committed by Sri Lanka Police via the 1960 Emergency Hotline, which is operational 24/7.
