Expert Committee to probe recent incidents at Peradeniya and Kandy hospitals

COLOMBO (News 1st) - An Expert Committee has been appointed to investigate the recent reports of patients who experienced allergic reactions after they were administered with antibiotics at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital and Kandy National Hospital.

The Expert Committee will be chaired by the Head of the Allergy Immunology and Cell Biology Unit at the University of Sri Jayawardenepura Dr. Chandima Jeewandara.

Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella says the Committee will focus on identifying the root cause of these incidents and preparing a report on the matter.

Chamodi Sandeepani, who was administered with this antibiotic recently, passed away at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, after suffering a severe allergic reaction.

Three batches of this antibiotics were later temporarily withdrawn from use.
