The genius of Geoffery Bawa on the big screen

COLOMBO (News1st): The premier of Afdhel Aziz's latest documentary film "The Genius of the Place: The Life and Work of Geoffrey Bawa" took place in Colombo on Saturday.    

"The Genius of the Place: The Life and Work of Geoffrey Bawa" written and directed by Afdhel Aziz uncovers what drove the influential architect Geoffrey Bawa to come up with these remarkable creations, blending his classically trained influences with his deep love of nature.  

Speaking to News 1st's Thinal Thilakaratne, the films Director Afdhel Aziz said "We made the film last year(2021) while Sri Lanka was going through an economic crisis." 

"It was very important for me to hire Sri Lankan filmmakers and give them jobs and find a way to show the world how beautiful Sri Lanka could be," Aziz added. 

Aziz said, "I hope to take this film internationally so that people all around the world get a chance to see the amazing beauty of Sri Lanka and witness Geoffrey Bawa's works as well." 

The concept behind the movie was to help Sri Lankans but also people around the world to experience the genius of his work and also the genius of Sri Lanka. 

Sri Lankan film-makers were hired in making the film to show the world how beautiful Sri Lanka could be. 

The architectural community of Colombo attended the premiere on Saturday. 

According to the director, the worldwide screening of the documentary will happen at the end of the year.
