Two dozen people arrested for ugly brawl in Achchuveli

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police arrested 20 women and six men for unruly conduct within the Achchuveli Police Jurisdiction.

Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa told News 1st that a brawl had broken out over an incident where photographs of local women were photoshopped to nude images of women overseas, and circulated on social media.

A complaint over nude photographs being circulated on social media was filed with Sri Lanka Police recently.

Sri Lanka Police said that over 150 people had visited the residence of a youth located close to the house from where the complaint was made, and had assaulted a young man, damaged his motorcycle and set fire to the residence.

Thereafter, Sri Lanka Police rushed to the scene to save the man, and during the process, a group also attacked a police inspector.

Sri Lanka Police had fired shots into the air to control the unruly crowd.

The Police Spokesperson said that the group thereafter damaged a nearby house and set fire to a small truck in the vicinity.
