Nine people arrested for beating to death a 22-year-old man

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police have arrested nine people for beating to death a 22-year-old man from Hanguranketha.

Sri Lanka Poice said that a man who was beaten by a group in Diyathilakapura, Hanguranketha died on Sunday (25) while being treated in a hospital.

The man was initially injured following a brawl that broke out over a land dispute and later succumbed to his injuries.

Earlier, one woman was arrested over the crime and was remanded, and on Tuesday (27) eight other suspects were arrested.

On Monday (26) evening, a group behaved in an unruly manner opposite the Hanguranketha Police citing that the police failed to arrest the other suspect.

In order to control the situation, Sri Lanka Police had taken measures to open fire into the air.

Police Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa told News 1st that the group was protesting against the failure to arrest those responsible for the murder.
