Rs. 640 Mn worth heroin found inside potato container in Colombo

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka Customs recovered a stock of heroin worth Rs. 640 Million, weighing 16 kilograms. 

Senior Customs Director and Customs Spokesperson Sudattha Silva speaking to News 1st said that the heroin was detected in a cargo container, and the vessel carrying the container reached Colombo from Karachchi, Pakistan.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the heroin was shipped to Sri Lanka under the guise of importing potatoes.

According to reports, the vessel had left Karachchi on the 15th of June, and the 12 packets of heroin were discovered concealed inside the air duct of a deep refrigeration cargo container.

Two people were arrested, and Sudattha Silva, the Senior Director of Customs, told News 1st that the suspects and the heroin will be handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau for further investigations.
