EPF in danger, warns Anura Kumara

COLOMBO (News 1st); JVP Anura Kumara Dissanayake alleged that the Sri Lankan Government under the guise of domestic debt restructuring is attempting to take away the funds deposited with the Employees' Provident Fund.

"The government has decided to go for domestic debt restructuring before external debt restructuring. The government is debt to the tune of 27 Trillion Rupees. 14 Trillion Rupees is external debt. 13 Trillion Rupees is domestic debt. They are trying to restructure domestic debt. They want to slash the domestic debt. People deposited money with the banks, the banks lent the money to the government, and the government wants that money slashed," told a May Day Rally in Colombo on Monday (1).
