Weapons from army camp seized for murder investigation

COLOMBO (News 1st); Thirty-six T-56 Assault Rifles issued to the Sri Lanka army personnel at the Sri Lanka Army Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) Regimental Headquarters at Karandeniya on the 14th of April were taken into the custody of Sri Lanka Police.

This was after the Sri Lanka Police K-9 Unit, deployed to the investigation on the murder of a man on 14th April 2023 in Ahungalle, entered the Sri Lanka Army Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) Regimental Headquarters at Karandeniya.

On the 14th of April 2023, a man identified as Tharindu Dhanushka Silva from Middaramulla, Ahungalla was shot by two-armed motorcycle gunmen while traveling on a motorcycle with his niece and nephew.

He died upon being admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital.

The two small children who fell off the motorcycle when the shooting took place were admitted to the Balapitiya Hospital for treatment.

The Police Media Division said the weapons seized from the Sri Lanka Army Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) Regimental Headquarters at Karandeniya will be directed to the Government Analyst for tests.

The motorcycle believed to have been used by the gunmen was also located in cinnamon garden close to the Sri Lanka Army Military Intelligence Corps (MIC) Regimental Headquarters at Karandeniya on the 15th of April.
