Tear gas & water cannons fired to disperse University of Colombo student protest

Colombo (News 1st) - A protest was staged on Wednesday (8) against the brutal attack on University of Colombo students during the protest they staged on Tuesday (7). Police fired water cannons and tear gas to disperse the protesters in four different locations. 

The University of Colombo Federation of University Teachers Association staged a protest on Wednesday (8) opposite the university premises. The protest was staged opposing moves taken by the police on Tuesday to barge into the university premises and assault university students who were engaged in academic activities. 

Similarly, the Student Union of the University of Colombo commenced a protest march starting from the University of Colombo Art Faculty upto Royal College, Colombo. 

When the protesters tried to march towards the National Museum the Police fired water cannons and tear gas to disperse them.
