Hospitals, labs fined for over-charging tests

COLOMBO (News 1st); A fine of Rs.5.5 million has been imposed on eight private hospitals and medical laboratories that over charged for dengue antigen tests and full blood count tests.

This was according to the verdict of the cases filed by the Consumer Affairs Authority with the Hulftsdorp and Nugegoda Magistrate's Courts against those institutions.

The maximum price for dengue antigen tests is set at Rs.1,200.

The Consumer Affairs Authority said however the relevant institutions charged up to Rs.3,000 for the dengue antigen test.

The Consumer Affairs Authority added that the relevant institutions charged up to Rs.1,000 for the full blood count test, while the maximum price is set at Rs.400.

Meanwhile the Consumer Affairs Authority said facts have been presented in court against 10 other institutions which over charged for dengue antigen tests and full blood count tests.

Raids in this regard are ongoing.
