Russia committed ‘crimes against humanity’ in Ukraine - US

COLOMBO (News 1st) - The US has determined that Russia committed "crimes against humanity" during its nearly year-long invasion of Ukraine, according to US Vice President Kamala Harris.

Russian forces had carried out "widespread and systemic" attacks on the country's civilian population, she said.

“In the case of Russia’s actions in Ukraine we have examined the evidence, we know the legal standards, and there is no doubt: these are crimes against humanity,” Harris said.

“And I say to all those who have perpetrated these crimes, and to their superiors who are complicit in these crimes, you will be held to account,” she added.

The statement was made at the Munich Security Conference, just days before the anniversary of Moscow's full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
