Ex-Deputy Minister loses civic rights for seven years, sentenced to six months in prison

COLOMBO (News 1st); Former Deputy Minister Myown Mustapha was sentenced tp six months in prison and was fined Rs. 500/- by the Colombo High Court for providing a bribe to secure the support for a candidate at the 2010 Presidential Election.

Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabandige ordered to strip the Former Deputy Minister of his civic rights for seven years.

The Attorney General indicted Former Deputy Minister Myown Mustapha at the Colombo High Court on charges of having offered Rs.4,200,000/- to National Freedom Front Spokesperson Mohamed Mazammil as a means of inducing him to support then Common Opposition Presidential Candidate General Sarath Fonseka (later promoted to Field Marshal) at the 2010 Presidential Election.
