Concerns raised as Another Inmate Dies of Suspected Brain Fever in Matara Prison

Another 54-year-old inmate from Matara Prison, who had been critically ill in the Matara General Hospital's intensive care unit, has succumbed to the suspected brain fever. 

This tragedy brings the death toll within the prison to two.

Dr. Hemantha Ranasinghe, Director of Health Services at the Matara Prison confirmed this. 

He further raised concerns about the risk of disease outbreaks in Sri Lankan prisons due to overcrowding, emphasizing the need for immediate attention to this ongoing problem
