COLOMBO (News 1st); PET scans in government hospitals have been disrupted.

The PET scanners at the National Hospital of Sri Lanka and the Maharagama Apeksha Hospital, which conducts the tests, are not operational.

President of the Government Radiological Technologists Association Chanaka Dharmawickrama said patients have been severely affected as a result.

He said it costs nearly Rs.300,000 to conduct a PET scan in the private sector.

Dharmawickrama said radiation therapy at the Kandy and Batticaloa hospitals has also been hampered, as the linear accelerator machines have malfunctioned.

It costs around Rs.500,000 to Rs.1.7 million for radiation therapy in the private sector.
