COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan authorities have apprehended 1,422 suspects in the past 24 hours as part of their ongoing "Yukthiya Operation," aimed at cracking down on crime and illegal activities.
The operation, which began earlier this month, has seen a significant surge in arrests.
A total of 1,422 suspects were apprehended across the country during the latest 24-hour period.
35 of the arrested individuals have been detained for further investigation based on detention orders.
Financial crimes investigations have been initiated against 3 suspects suspected of involvement in illegal asset acquisition.
37 individuals identified as drug addicts have been referred to rehabilitation centers for treatment and recovery.
In addition, 73 suspects on the wanted list of the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Special Bureau were apprehended during the operation.
A significant amount of drugs, including 5 kg 475 grams of Cannabis, as well as heroin, Mawa, ice, and pills, were seized from suspects during the operation.
