Port workers suspend planned strike action

COLOMBO (News 1st); Thursday's (28) planned trade union action by the All Ceylon Ports General Employees Union has been suspended.

General Secretary Niroshan Gorakanage said the trade union action was suspended due to the injunction issued by the Colombo District Court against the trade unions of the Port Authority.

The Colombo District Court issued an interim injunction yesterday against the trade unions of the Port Authority, preventing the trade union actions planned to be implemented on Thursday (27).

The Colombo District Court issued the order suspending any kind of trade union action or strike in the port on Thursday (27), so as to disrupt the services or disrupt the daily activities.

This was considering a complaint made by the Port Authority.
