Measles cases on the rise in nine districts

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Ministry of Health said the number of measles patients has increased in nine districts.

Secretary to the Ministry of Health Dr. Palitha Mahipala said a program was planned to administer a dose of the measles vaccine to babies between 6-9 months.

The vaccination programme is scheduled to be implemented in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Kandy, Jaffna, Kurunegala and Kalmunai where measles cases are most reported.

The vaccination programme will be carried out from 9am to 4pm on the 6th of January.

In 2019, Sri Lanka was certified by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a country that eradicated measles.
