Inmate Dies After Prison Brawl in Kalutara

COLOMBO (News 1st); A fight between inmates at Kalutara Prison on Monday resulted in the death of a 46-year-old man.

The deceased, identified as a resident of Molkawa, currently remanded on suspicion of theft, sustained injuries during the altercation, and was hospitalized at Nagoda Hospital. Early this morning, he succumbed to his injuries, confirmed Prison Spokesperson & Commissioner Gamini B. Dissanayake.
 
“The Prison Department is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the fight and the subsequent fatality,” Dissanayake stated.

Details surrounding the cause and nature of the brawl remain unclear, and an official investigation is underway.
