"Instructions issued to CEB to suspend all planned power interruptions for non essential maintenance work on weekends & holiday season", says Kanchana Wijesekara

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekara said that instructions had been issued to CEB to suspend all planned power interruptions for non-essential maintenance work on weekends & during the holiday season maintaining an uninterrupted supply of power. 

Issuing a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, the Minister said that new guidelines would be issued by the General Manager of the CEB, in par with the international benchmarks on planned power interruptions for maintenance work. 

He adds that the Ministry has taken the decision after reviewing the complaints received from electricity consumers on frequent power interruptions for maintenance work. 

Kanchana Wijesekara says that the Ministry has also observed unnecessary planned power interruptions for maintenance over the weekends costing CEB large amounts of money for overtime payments.
