Yukthiya Operation Seizes 73,833 Cannabis Plants

COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan police seized a large haul of narcotics during operation Yukthiya (Justice), and arrested 2008 suspects in a 24-hour crackdown.

Operation Yukthiya was implemented from 12:30 AM on Wednesday to 12:30 AM on Thursday (21).

The haul included a staggering 2kg 400g of heroin, 1kg of ice (Crystal Meth), 12kg 200g of cannabis, and over 73,833 cannabis plants.

Police also seized smaller quantities of Hashish (12g), Mawa (5kg 200g), Ash (32g), Thul (844g), Narcotic substance identified as 'Madana Modaka' (4kg 100g), and another 17,054 prescription pills.

Authorities arrested a total of 2,008 suspects, with 185 currently under investigation based on detention orders.

Notably, 228 of the arrested individuals were already listed as registered suspects by the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Special Bureau, demonstrating the operation's effectiveness in targeting known offenders.

Asset investigations have been initiated against 33 suspects, and 209 individuals have been referred for rehabilitation programs.
