COLOMBO (News 1st) ; In a major blow to organized crime, the Illegal Assets Investigation Division of the Sri Lankan Police has seized a significant amount of property and vehicles allegedly acquired through illegal means, primarily drug trafficking.

The confiscated assets, estimated to be worth over Rs. 92 Million, represent a major step in curbing financial crime and disrupting criminal networks.

Police Media Spokesman SSP Nihal Talduwa confirmed the details of the seizures, highlighting several key items: 7 Vehicles valued at Rs. 41 Million, suspected to be linked to illegal activities.

Land worth Rs. 43 Million, suspected to be acquired through laundered money was also seized.

A gold stash worth Rs. 8.7 Million, along with Rs. 123,000 in cash, was also confiscated.

Notably, 3 buses allegedly purchased by 'Ladiya', a known organized criminal involved in drug trafficking, were among the seized assets.

One of these buses was previously used for passenger transportation, raising concerns about potential infiltration of legitimate businesses by criminal elements.
