Special ID Cards for Persons with Disabilities for Easier Voting

COLOMBO (News 1st); In a significant step towards greater inclusivity in the democratic process, Sri Lanka will begin distributing special identity cards to persons with disabilities (PWDs) starting tomorrow, December 21, 2023.

These cards, designed to facilitate easier voting access for PWDs, are a joint initiative by the Election Commission, the People's Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.

The special ID cards, bearing the signature of the Commissioner General of Elections, will streamline the voting process for PWDs, eliminating potential hurdles at polling stations.

Anational launch event will be held tomorrow in the Puttalam district. 

This event will serve as a platform to officially initiate the distribution of the special ID cards and raise awareness about the program's significance in promoting a more accessible and inclusive electoral environment.
