COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (News 1st): Sri Lanka's former Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has expressed his willingness to accept the mantle of the 2024 Common Candidate for the Presidential Election, should political parties unite behind his nomination.

Ranasinghe acknowledged the potential challenge, stating, "If political groups move a proposal to name me as the 2024 Common Candidate, I would readily accept it."

"Sri Lanka has everything it needs," he declared, highlighting the country's rich natural endowments, skilled workforce, and strategic location.

He believes that with proper management and efficient utilization, these resources can unlock Sri Lanka's full potential.

However, Ranasinghe recognizes the critical need for robust anti-corruption measures to ensure equitable development.

He emphasized that the current audit process must be significantly strengthened to effectively combat fraud and corruption, which have plagued the country for years.
