Long-distance buses along Colombo-Badulla road restricted

COLOMBO (News 1st); All long-distance buses operating along the Colombo-Badulla road will be restricted to Uduwara, Hali-Ela, from Monday (11).

The Disaster Management Center said the road was closed for heavy vehicles since Sunday (10) evening, due to the landslide reported in Uduwara, Hali-Ela.

The Bandarawela road can be used via Maligathenna, Ettampitiya, as an alternative route.

The DMC said the road will remain open from Bandarawela, for light vehicles.

The landslide warning issued in the Badulla, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Kurunegala, Matale, Matara, Nuwara Eliya and Ratnapura districts remains in effect.

The Department of Meteorology predicted that showers will occur in the Northern, North-central and Eastern provinces, while showers or thundershowers will occur at several places in other areas of the island after 1.00 p.m.

The Met. Department predicted fairly heavy showers above 75mm in the Central, Sabaragamuwa and Western provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

The Department predicted misty condition in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southern and Uva provinces in the morning.
