COLOMBO (News 1st); The Department of Meteorology said the showery weather condition is expected to enhance over most places of the island for the next few days starting from Monday (27).

The Department predicted showers or thundershowers in the Eastern, Northern, and North-central provinces, with showers or thundershowers in other provinces of the island after 02.00 p.m.

The Met. Department predicted fairly heavy showers of about 75mm in the Eastern, Uva, Western, and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts.

Meanwhile, Badulla District Secretary Prabath Abeywardena said 880 people belonging to 277 families in the Badulla district have been evacuated to 11 locations for safety, due to the risk of landslides.

The District Secretary also informed the public to refrain from using the Welimada-Badulla Road at night.

The landslide red alert issued to the Balangoda, Weligepola, Opanayake, Imbulpe, and Kolonna Divisional Secretariats of the Ratnapura District continues to be in effect, due to the prevailing heavy showers.

The National Building Research Organization (NBRO) said Level 1 and Level 2 landslide early warnings are in effect in many Divisional Secretariats in the Ratnapura, Badulla, Kandy, and Kegalle districts.
