10 deaths from landslides in 2 months alone

COLOMBO  (News 1st) - Ten people have been killed in landslides in two months.

The National Building Research Organization says that five of the ten deaths were reported from the Ratnapura district.

The other deaths have been reported from the Badulla, Galle, and Kandy districts.

The National Building Research Organization has inspected 1559 high-risk areas during that time period.

131 landslide locations have also been identified.

768 landslides and 88 incidents of erosion were also identified.

159 other incidents have also been reported.

Meanwhile, The Geological Survey & Mines Bureau says that more than 14,200 families in 14 districts live in high-risk zones of landslides.

Its senior geologist Laksiri Indratilaka says that among them, about 5,000 families are being relocated to safe places.
