64,834 affected due to floods in Matara

COLOMBO (News 1st); 64,834 people belonging to 17,993 families have been affected by floods in the area as of 08:30 am on Sunday (08).

Matara District Secretary Y. Wickramasiri said 23,108 people of 6,301 families in the district have been displaced due to floods.

He said 41,726 people belonging to 11,692 families remain trapped.

390 houses have been damaged while two houses have been destroyed in the Matara district.

The Department of Meteorology predicted that showers in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces will temporarily reduce in the next 48 hours.
