Missing Paddy: Two officers suspended

COLOMBO (News 1st); Two officers who were in charge of warehouses have been suspended following the disappearance of paddy stocks from warehouses in Kurunegala.

Chairman of the Paddy Marketing Board Buddhika Iddamalgoda said around 700,000kg of paddy were missing from the warehouses, that the two relevant officials were in charge of.

The Polgahawela paddy storage is also due to be opened and inspected on Tuesday (31), based on a complaint received by Sri Lanka Police.

Iddamalgoda said two complaints were submitted to the Criminal Investigation Department regarding the incidents.

He added that the investigation report related to the disappearance of paddy stocks from Kurunegala is to be handed over to the Minister of Agriculture and Plantation Industries Mahinda Amaraweera on Tuesday (31).
