Colombo (News 1st) - The countdown has begun to RACE THE PEARL, the most epic, exotic and exciting cycling race across Sri Lanka. It’s a 600-km 24-hour challenge down the length of Sri Lanka, that promises to be both grueling and enjoyable, starting from Sri Lanka’s northernmost spot of Point Pedro and ending on the beaches of the southernmost point of Dondra.

This is the 6th edition of the race and it will be flagged off at 0001 hours on 28th October (Friday night, one minute past midnight).

The launch event of Race The Pearl was held in Colombo on 25th October. Yasas Hewage, the Race Director/Finisher, said: “This is a story that some of you know already. It is all about being positive and all of us here are looking to do something positive. So a positive morning and positive vibes will follow.”

Dozens of foreign and local cyclists have traditionally competed in this event, and the numbers are expected to swell this year. Competitors have a choice of racing solo or in a relay team consisting of up to five members.

This particular route promises to be breathtaking indeed as it skirts several wildlife parks and is surrounded by nature. The journey consists of four pit stops in Vavuniya, Dambulla, Mahiyangana and Wellawaya.

Race The Pearl is organised by Spinner Epic Cycle Events with sponsors including Jetwing Hotels, Visit Sri Lanka, MAS, SOL Fitness Resorts, Browns Hotels & Resorts, and The LIV Foundation.

YES 101 is the proud Media Partner of the event.
