Navy seizes local multiday fishing trawler with narcotics worth over Rs. 4 billion

COLOMBO (News 1st) - Sri Lanka Navy has arrested five suspects along with a local multiday fishing trawler carrying narcotics off west of Galle.

This was based on information from a coordinated intelligence operation conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and Police Narcotic Bureau.

The multiday fishing trawler was heading to Sri Lanka from a foreign country.

Over 212kg (including packages) of heroin and ICE were recovered from the trawler. 

According to the Navy, the street value of the seized consignment of narcotics is believed to be over Rs. 4 billion.

The suspects along with the stock of narcotics and the fishing trawler were handed over to the Police Narcotic Bureau for onward legal action.
