Colombo (News 1st) - The death toll from a suspected suicide bombing inside a mosque in the northwestern Pakistani city of Peshawar on Monday rose to at least 100 people with 225 wounded, foreign media reported.

The explosion took place during prayers at the mosque which is located inside a police compound. Part of the mosque collapsed and victims were buried in the rubble. Many victims were police officers at prayer.

The terror group Tehreeq-e-Taliban (TTP) initially claimed responsibility for the attack, but later denied involvement. Prayers had just begun when the explosion took place.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif flew to Peshawar on Monday and condemned the attack.
