Colombo (News 1st) - Microsoft confirmed Monday that it would be making a multi-billion dollar investment in OpenAI, the maker of the advanced chatbot tool CHATgpt, demonstrating that Microsoft is banking on artificial intelligence as the investment for the future.
“We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform,” Microsoft’s CEO Satya Nadella said.
Microsoft has for some time been a key investor in OpenAI. CHATgpt, which was launched last November, has rapidly gained a reputation as the world's most advanced intelligent chatbot, raising new hopes for the future of artificial intelligence (AI), but also drawing concerns with regard to the misuse of such advanced abilities.
Schools and universities are in particular concerned of the near-perfect abilities of CHATgpt to rapidly prepare academic documents such as assignments, and there is also concern that the chatbot could be used to spread misinformation and target particular groups in a hateful manner.
Both CHATgpt and DALL-E, OpenAI's image sourcing platform, have been exposed to vast amounts of data that they use to generate content according to the requirements of users.
