COLOMBO (News 1st) - The Provincial letters will be eliminated from the Vehicle Number Plate when a new vehicle is registered, and when ownership is transferred with effect from the 1st of January 2023.
The amendment to the vehicle number places was announced by the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic on Friday (30).

Sri Lanka's Commissioner General of Motor Traffic says a Point and Point Suspension System will be introduced from 2023, in a bid to minimize motor traffic accidents.

He says that the necessary steps for this program have already been taken, and it will be implemented following cabinet approval.

"This system comprises 24 points. Various traffic offences carry separate points. If a motorist obtains all 24 points that particular license will be terminated. The motorists can apply for a new license after another year. The motorists need to follow all the steps once again to apply for a license," said Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasingha, the Commissioner General of Motor Traffic.
