COLOMBO (News 1st); The Road Development Authority (RDA) has made significant progress in restoring road connectivity across Sri Lanka following widespread damage caused by recent extreme weather.
According to RDA Director General Wimal Kandambi, out of 315 damaged road sections, 284 have already been repaired and reopened for traffic, leaving only 31 sections pending.
Speaking to the media, Kandambi detailed the province-wise progress:
Central Province: 40 sections damaged; 25 repaired, 15 pending. Major challenges remain on Kalalpitiya–Ukuwela–Alkadua Road, where a landslide wiped out an entire stretch, forcing authorities to plan an alternative route.
The Matale–Ilukkumbura–Laggala Road also suffered severe damage.
Uva Province: 22 sections damaged; 17 repaired, 5 pending.
Sabaragamuwa Province: 36 sections damaged; 32 repaired, 4 pending.
North Central Province: 15 sections damaged; 12 repaired, 3 pending.
North Western Province: 58 sections damaged; 56 repaired.
Northern Province: 34 sections damaged; 32 repaired, 2 pending.
Western Province: All 67 damaged sections repaired and reopened.
Eastern Province: 24 sections damaged; all repaired.
Batticaloa District: 16 sections damaged; 10 repaired, 6 pending.
