COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka received a major boost in its disaster relief efforts on Monday (8) as the Indian Naval Ship (INS) Gharial docked at Trincomalee Port, carrying a massive consignment of humanitarian assistance from the Government of India.

The vessel delivered 650 tons of essential supplies, including food, clothing, and other critical items, aimed at supporting communities severely affected by Cyclone Ditwah.

This shipment marks another strong gesture of solidarity between India and Sri Lanka during a time of urgent need.

The official handover of the relief cargo was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Arun Hemachandra, who expressed gratitude for India’s timely assistance.

Also present was the Deputy Indian High Commissioner in Jaffna.

This delivery follows India’s earlier deployment of LCU 54, LCU 51 and LCU 57 for supplying HADR stores to cyclone-affected regions of Sri Lanka.

The three LCUs (Landing Craft Utility) arrived at Colombo on the morning of 07 Dec 2025 and handed over critical relief material to the Sri Lankan authorities.
