49 Rescued from Flooded Bus on Kala Oya Bridge

The Sri Lankan Navy has safely rescued 49 individuals trapped on a bus stranded by floodwaters on the Kala Oya Bridge.

According to Navy spokesperson Commander Buddhika Sampath, the operation, which began last night, is still ongoing, 

Among those rescued are a German national woman and a High Court judge. 

The group has been admitted to the Nochchiyagama Hospital.

The bus, carrying passengers from Anuradhapura to Colombo, became stranded near the bridge yesterday afternoon. 

The Navy safely transferred the passengers to the roof of a nearby building.

Security forces carried out several strenuous efforts to ensure the group’s safe evacuation. 

The rescue operation was also monitored last night by the President Anura Kumara Dissanayake from the Ministry of Defence.
