COLOMBO (News 1st); International media is reporting that Pakistan has deployed army and paramilitary forces to safeguard the Sri Lankan cricket team following a deadly suicide bombing in Islamabad that raised serious concerns during their ongoing tour.
The announcement was made by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who also serves as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, during a live briefing to the Senate on Thursday.
He said that Pakistan Army, Rangers, and Islamabad Police are now jointly managing security for the Sri Lankan team. They are being treated with the same protocol as state guests.
Naqvi revealed that the decision for Sri Lanka to continue its tour came after intense diplomatic engagement between the two nations.
