COLOMBO (News 1st); The Colombo High Court has postponed the hearing of the money laundering case filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, and his grand-mother Daisy Forrest, to October 29.
The postponement was due to the unavailability of High Court Judge Pradeep Abeyratne, who is currently on official leave. The case had been scheduled for hearing today (4).
Both Yoshitha Rajapaksa and Daisy Forrest were present in court this (4) morning.
The Attorney General has filed three charges under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, alleging that between March 31, 2009, and December 12, 2013, the accused were involved in laundering over Rs. 59 million — funds for which they have allegedly failed to provide a legitimate source.
The charges relate to the placement of these funds in three fixed deposit accounts held at private banks, which prosecutors claim constitutes an offense under anti-money laundering laws.
