COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan Embassy in Lebanon has assured that Sri Lankans residing in the country are safe amidst the ongoing conflict.

Ambassador Kapila Jayaweera stated that the embassy is maintaining close contact with the Sri Lankan community to ensure their well-being.

Approximately 7,600 Sri Lankan workers are employed in Lebanon, with the majority residing in the southern regions of the country, according to Ambassador Jayaweera.

Recent airstrikes by Israel targeting Hezbollah in northern Lebanon have raised concerns.

However, Ambassador Jayaweera emphasized that no Sri Lankans are living in the conflict zones.

The airstrikes have resulted in over 600 casualties. In response, Hezbollah has begun retaliatory actions against Israel, leading to an increasingly volatile situation in the region.
