'Cheers' actress Kirstie Alley dies

Colombo (News 1st) - Award-winning U.S. actress Kirstie Alley, who starred in the hit comedy Cheers, died of colon cancer on Monday (5th) at the age of 71.

Alley won an Emmy and a Golden Globe in 1991, starring as pub-owner Rebecca Howe from 1987-93 in Cheers, opposite Ted Danson who played bartender Sam Malone. She later played the lead role in the sitcom Veronica's Closet from 1997-2001 and was nominated for several more Emmys and Golden Globes. She won a second Emmy in 1994 for the television film David's Mother. 

She also appeared in 26 films in the 80s and 90s, most notably in the box office hits Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and opposite John Travolta in Look Who's Talking and its sequels Look Who's Talking Too, and Look Who's Talking Now.
