One missing as ferry capsizes in Kalutara, Five people rescued

COLOMBO (News 1st); A search operation is underway to locate a person missing after a ferry capsized in Kalutara on Friday (3) night.

Police said the ferry was used to transport people and goods from the Galpotha Pier to the Bolossagama Pier across the Kalu River.

Five people had fallen into the river when the ferry capsized and four of them were rescued by another boat that was stationary at a pier, after hearing cries for help, said Police.

Three motorcycles and a bicycles that were also being transported are now resting at the bottom of the river, added police.
