COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lankan law enforcement authorities have apprehended two members of an organized crime gang in the Kotahena and Borella areas.
The suspects, aged 35 and 38 years, were taken into custody as part of ongoing efforts to combat criminal activities.
Simultaneously, a broader operation known as Operation Yukthiya resulted in the arrest of 906 additional suspects within a 24-hour period, culminating at 12:30 AM today.
Among this group, 862 individuals are linked to drug-related offenses.
The Ministry of Public Security has confirmed that 44 of the apprehended suspects were previously flagged by criminal divisions.
These individuals were on watchlists maintained by the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Police Special Bureau.
Substantial quantities of illicit substances, including heroin, crystal meth, marijuan, and Mawa pills, were seized by the police during these operations.
