Major Drug Bust at Sea: Navy Captures Fishing Boat with 200kg of Narcotics in Galle

COLOMBO (News 1st); The Sri Lankan Navy apprehended a multi-day fishing boat carrying a large quantity of narcotics in the seas of Galle. 

Navy Spokesman Captain Gayan Wickramasuriya confirmed the operation, stating that 200 kg of narcotics were seized and six people aboard the vessel were arrested.

The vessel was found to be transporting a combined total of 150 kg of ICE (crystal methamphetamine) and 50 kg of Heroin amounting to roughly 200 kg of narcotics. 

Captain Wickramasuriya revealed that the apprehended individuals were fishermen residing in Galle and Beruwala areas.

The Navy intercepted the multi-day fishing vessel last night and brought it to Galle port this morning.

The drug bust was a result of a joint operation conducted by the Naval Intelligence Division and the Police Narcotics Bureau.
