COLOMBO (News 1st); 22 foreign tourists visiting the historic Sigiriya rock fortress in Sri Lanka were hospitalized after being stung by wasps.
The incident occurred when a part of a wasp hive collapsed due to high wind conditions, leading to the unfortunate stings.
Professor Gamini Ranasinghe, the Director General of the Central Cultural Fund, confirmed the cause of the incident and announced that the Sigiriya premises had to be temporarily closed to ensure the safety of visitors.
The situation has been brought under control, and Sigiriya has now reopened for tourists.
