COLOMBO (News 1st): Two fishing boats carrying nine Sri Lankan fishermen encountered an accident in the Indian Ocean, approximately 300 kilometers from Seychelles.

The vessels, identified as Blue Ocean 02 and Blue Ocean 06, had set sail from Dikowita port on June 30th, destined for Somalia.

These boats were part of a fishing operation organized by a Dubai-based businessman, who had purchased the vessels for use by Sri Lankan fishermen off the coast of Somalia.

The unexpected accident has left the fishermen stranded without food, water, or fuel.

The Sri Lankan Embassy in Seychelles has confirmed that a rescue mission is underway.

A senior officer reported that a Seychelles Coast Guard vessel had reached the location of the stranded boats.

The rescue team is providing the fishermen with essential supplies, including food and fuel, while efforts to bring them to safety continue.
